What we collect

Nothing you type. There is no sign-up, no newsletter, no comment section and no contact form on this site. The cost calculator runs entirely in your browser and the answers you give it are never sent to us or stored anywhere.

What is collected automatically

Like any website, our host records standard server logs when a page is served, including IP address, browser type and the page requested. These are used to keep the site running and to spot abuse.

We use Google Analytics to count page views and see which guides get read. It records the pages you open, roughly which part of the country you are in, and whether you arrived from a search engine or a link somewhere else. It does not know your name or your email, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies on your browser, named _ga and _ga_followed by a code. They hold a random identifier so that two visits from the same browser can be counted as one person rather than two, and they last up to two years. Our hosting provider also sets a security cookie to tell real visitors from automated traffic.

We do not set advertising cookies. If you would rather not be counted at all, blocking scripts from googletagmanager.com, or installing Google's own opt-out add-on, will stop it.

Third parties

• Cloudflare delivers the site and filters malicious traffic. It processes request data including your IP address.
• Supabase stores the guide content and serves it to your browser. It does not receive personal data about you.
• Google Analytics counts visits on our behalf. Google processes that data as our processor, and may hold it on servers outside the UK.
• Email. If you email us, we hold that email so we can reply to it. We do not add you to anything.

If you call the referral number on the cost calculator, you are dealing directly with that company under their own privacy policy, not ours.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. In practice, unless you have emailed us, the only thing connected to you is a random analytics identifier that does not name you.

Children

This site is written for adults dealing with a housing problem. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the foot of the page changes with it. Material changes will be described rather than slipped in.
