Terms of use
What this site is, what it is not, and what you can reasonably rely on it for.
Guidance, not professional advice
Everything here is general information about damp and mould in UK homes. It is not a survey, a diagnosis, a legal opinion or medical advice, and reading it does not create any professional relationship between you and us.
Buildings differ. A guide cannot know that your bathroom shares a wall with an unheated extension or that the previous owner tanked the cellar badly. Where a problem is significant, recurring, or affecting someone vulnerable, get someone qualified to look at it.
The cost calculator
The calculator produces an indicative range from published day rates and typical clearance rates, and every assumption behind it is listed on the page. It is a sanity check for a quote you have been given, not a quotation and not an offer. Real pricing depends on an on-site survey.
Accuracy
We check figures against primary sources and date every guide, as set out in our editorial policy. UK housing law and market rates both change, so a guide is accurate as at its stated review date and no later. Always check legislation and government guidance directly before relying on it for a legal decision.
If you spot an error, tell us and we will correct it.
External links
We link out to sources including gov.uk, the NHS, the HSE and the IICRC. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content. Links are not endorsements of any commercial service.
Referrals
The cost calculator carries a referral to a UK remediation firm, and that referral funds the site. Any contract you enter into with that firm is between you and them. We are not a party to it and give no warranty about their work. Get a second quote on anything substantial.
Liability
We provide this site in good faith and take reasonable care over it, but to the extent permitted by law we accept no liability for loss arising from acting on general guidance published here. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, where the law does not allow that to be excluded.
Content
The text, design and code of this site belong to its operator. You are welcome to quote a reasonable extract with a link back. Republishing guides wholesale is not permitted.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
